About this space

The Farmstead is a special type of B&B because it offers guests an opportunity to reconnect with themselves in a way that others do not. In addition to providing a beautiful and relaxing retreat, the Farmstead is run by missionaries who are committed to providing water, schooling, mentorship, and trade skills to children in Tanzania. Every day at the Farmstead brings one day of school —and we hope that you will join us in our cause!

This is the best time to visit—the fall foliage is beautiful making this property perfect for photos (and even better for activities like zip lining). It sits near hiking routes, Lake Lure, Tryon International Equestrian Center, Parker-Binns Vineyard—the list goes on. From animal tours to wine tasting and apple picking nearby; every member of the family can find an adventure. Just step outside and you’ll find yourself surrounded by gardens, an abundance of nature and farm animals, fresh farm eggs for breakfast and a peaceful stay guaranteed. Despite their small size, the tiny homes are spacious, open, and equipped with everything you will need.

Every stay has brought a day of possibilities to the children in Tanzania. Owners Darin and Heather built the tiny homes on their farmstead in hopes of sharing a bit of Tanzania with others. They wanted to create a place where guests can pause – step back from life’s complexities to really reconnect with what matters most. If this tiny home isn’t available when you’re looking – or if your group needs something bigger – check out our other tiny homes at the farm; the designs are all unique!

You’ll find plenty of peace and quiet at our farm and nothing to distract you from the natural beauty of the surroundings. We encourage our guests to say hello to the animals on our property, who are here to greet them every day. Don’t worry about staying up to date with your favorite television shows or sending emails from your phone. You are truly disconnected at the farm, and your mind and body will thank you for it. Technology, restaurants, and other modern conveniences are just a short drive into Lake Lure 2 miles away. If disconnecting from the internet is your goal for a weekend getaway, then the farmstead is the perfect destination for you!

Boma Destination Rentals
What is a boma? The word boma is used in Southern and Eastern Africa to describe a gathering of people. Communities come together to share their food and drink around a fire. This closeness is what Boma Destination Rentals represents; a unique gathering place with storytelling and new experiences. Each stay in a Boma rental directly contributes to orphanages in Tanzania.

What to Expect

Renting this property offers a unique experience that differs from staying at a hotel, so we’d like to share some info ahead of time so you can decide if it’s in line with your expectations:

If you crave a luxurious hotel experience, this might not meet your expectations.

You’ll be closer to nature here and its critters. From buzzing bugs to recent wildlife traces. Although it’s safe and secure, just be cautious of your surroundings, and it’d be wise not to invite wildlife by leaving food out at night, etc.

We’re not kidding when we say there are farm animals! Get ready for a true “rustic” experience with fire pits, a vegetable garden, and farm animals roaming around.

There’s no Wi-Fi signal, and some mobile operators have limited to no coverage, but it offers a rare chance to truly disconnect and unwind. Most cell phone services work at the entrance of the facility, however, and there are always homesteaders in the area if you need a hand.

Although this is a nature-embracing setting, just know that you’re not staying in the boondocks either. You’ll still be close to modern amenities. In fact, there’s a Starbucks 5 minutes up the road!

Get ready to embrace rustic charm, reconnect with nature, and experience a different kind of vacation where you can mingle with farm animals, enjoy the delights of nature, and let go of the digital world. We can’t wait to welcome you to our little slice of rustic paradise!
